Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Almaviva

Almaviva

Since 1933, Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, located at Pauillac in the Médoc, has been motivated by a constant ambition: to make the world's finest wines.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA has also exported its know-how beyond Bordeaux: to the Pays d'Oc, with a range of varietal wines and, more recently, Domaine de Baron'arques; to California, with Opus One; and to Chile, with Almaviva.

One of the key factors behind the company's undisputed success is the art of blending, which it practices with exceptional skill. Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, the majority shareholder of Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, works closely with the executive directors to maintain, modernize and develop the family business.

Almaviva 2002

Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon; Carmenère; Cabernet Franc.

LCBO # 740233     $84.95 estimated

Tasting- Dazzling violet colour with a crimson-red tint and a powerful, highly aromatic nose on cherry liqueur and wild berry fruit (especially blackberry) with an elegant mixture of liquorice and pepper notes. Smooth and velvety over a refined tannic structure of some distinction, it develops ripe red fruit and spice on the palate, with a touch of mocha. A long and succulent finish leaves an impression of freshness in an array of distinctive flavours, expressing all the roundness of Carmenère as it enfolds the Cabernet.
Serving- Decant one hour before serving. Excellent with duck, veal and medium cheeses.
