The winegrowing history of the Ugarte family goes back in time to the year 1870, when Don Amancio Ugarte Ugarte started out on the production of his own vintage wines in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. Since then, his wines have gained both recognition and fame. His good works have been handed down from generation to generation. Alongside the "Camino de Santiago" (the Way of Saint James), between Sierra de Toloño and the medieval village of Laguardia, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, in Páganos, is where, in 1989, the grandson of the founder, Victorino Eguren Ugarte, constructed a new cellar at the foot of his vineyards: Heredad Ugarte. It was a long, tenacious job that has resulted in a family business that completes all the steps that are involved in the production process of a good wine.
