Latour-Giraud 2022 Meursaults: Top White Burgundy Vintage Since 2017
June 07, 2025

The Domaine Latour-Giraud is located in Burgundy most sought-after area, represented by the white wines of the Côte de Beaune. It specializes in the white wines which represent 80 % of its production.
The history of the Domain Latour-Giraud extends over three centuries and goes back from the end of the Seventeenth. The oldest most known ancestor is Jean Latour-Boillot born around 1680. At that time wine was already the principal income. The constant presence of the Latour family on the vineyard appears during the French revolution with Jean Latour-Mouquin, born in 1748 and grandson of Jean Latour-Boillot.
The Giraud family, already established for a long time in Côte d'Or, had founded a distillery at Meursault Hospital around 1845. This distillery was opened until 1914, producing of Marc of Burgundy, as well as the famous Cassis of Burgundy. The union of the two Domains occurred in 1958 following the wedding of the two families’ children.
“The 2022s are so good, with the necessary caveat that they be well-chosen, that they not only should be in your cellars but they should be in your cellars in quantity. As I have already said, but in this context it bears repeating, 2022 is the best white burgundy vintage since at least 2017 (yes, better than 2020, if only a little), and it rivals, if not surpasses 2014 and 2010. I can’t offer a better endorsement than that.

2022 Meursault Cuveé Charles Maxime
Latour-Giraud owns 3 hectares of vineyards in seven villages of Meursault. The Charles Maxime is their 'village' wine which is of high quality and a great representation of the region.
Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet has a little softer orchard fruit compared to the Bourgogne, and is very true to its Meursault roots. The white fruit continues on the palate and is now joined by a saline note, while the ripe apples give an immediate appeal. There are little waves of flavour towards the back of the palate. Once again the aftertaste is fine, precise and thoroughly promising.

2022 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru
The vineyards of Genevrières equal a total of 16 hectares. Located in the heart of the Meursault 1er Crus, just south of the village.
The name comes from the Juniper trees that were once planted there years ago. It is sometimes said the taste of the Juniper flower comes through in the wine.
Interesting hint of exotic tea. There is again both good vibrancy and freshness to the finer still, but not denser, medium weight flavors that are almost delicate yet certainly don't lack for punch as the strikingly long finale is almost painfully intense. This is bone-dry but not especially austere and overall, one very classy wine. Buy it if you can find it.
