SInce their inception in 1917, Vietti have been at the forefront of Barolo production in the village of Castiglione, where they produced their first cru in 1961. This was a revolutionary concept at the time and they continue to be one of the top producers of Cru Barolo and Barbaresco.
Longtime winemaker at Vietti, Eugenio Palumbo, was recently in Toronto to introduce the 2021 vintage Barolos. These are some fantastic wines built for ageing. During his visit he said that 2020 is one of his favourites and ready to drink now!
Vietti continues to produce excellent wines with a sense of terroir. They now produce from different sub regions of Piedmont using indigenous varietals of the area.
Berry Brothers describes the 2020 Vintage:
We are in the midst of a trio of spectacular vintages from Piedmont. Last year, 2019 delivered gleaming fruit, paired with traditional tannic structures. Next year, we’ll see the super-charged 2021, which will combine time-demanding tannins with richer palates. But this year, in the middle of the three, 2020 gives us the best of both. These wines have expressive aromatics, good acidity and shape, with balanced and complete palates.
